Rough Start
Another rough start for the season for the Canucks starting out 2-7. The team is in the position to play their youth and have been adding small pieces to help them grow. #3 pick Novak is getting lots of playing time with recent UFA signee Toffoli and young playmaker Rizzo. Veleno and Dickson return from last years team and play with new UFA signee Turris. Crnovik, Kepler, and Toprowski are getting playing time in the bottom six. The only player that needs to be called up to get NHL time is Suchachek, and rumors are floating around that the Canucks are trying to get him upto the NHL.
On defense Saari is getting top pair minutes with Romanov, and is showing lots of growth early on. Wilde and Kylington are paired together and then Skjei and new comer Dunn are the 3rd pair.
In the AHL Lundqvist and Yasakov are the big young guys getting playing time.

Novak Demoted
Vancouver drsft pick Novak started the year in the NHL, but after 11 games and only 5 points, the team sent him down to the AHL. This moves leaves the Canucks with too many under agers in the AHL so Lundqvist is sent back to juniors for now. “The goal is to help Novak build confidence and get used to the NHL game. It’s unfortunate that Lundqvist had to go back to his junior team, but we expect him to be back in Utica very soon to continue his growth.” Said Juddy
They had a choice between Lundqvist and Yasakov, but ultimately chose to keep Yasakov in Utica. He was the best goalie in the drsft and they are happy with his current growth and expect him to be ready as early as the trade deadline but they also don’t want to rush him so it’s possible we’ll see him playing in Vancouver at the start of next season.

Vancouver has a good week?!?!
After a lousy start to the year, the Canucks finally see a bright spot. Most weeks they were at best a .500 team and at times winless. This past week however, they went 3-1 climbing up from the bottom of the standings. “Look it was a good week, are we a Cup contender NO, are we a playoff team? Not yet, but this is a step in the right direction. We put slot of effort into our farm team and our prospects and we expect good things in the future.” Said GM Juddy
He is right at best this year they will probably be a lottery team, but they need to stay focused on player development and sticking with their youth. They have a good defense group led by Romanov and Wilde and have a very promising 19 year old Saari making huge leaps in the NHL this year. They need their offensive prospects to catch up so they can turn the corner and be a legit playoff team.

Canucks Keep Rolling
After a 7 day stretch where the Canucks went 3-1, and won back to back games, their streak continues. They have now gone 7 games without a loss and jump upto 1 spot out of the Western Conference playoffs. It’s still early in the season, not even halfway, but if the Canucks can continue to string together a few winning streaks there’s no reason not to think they could sneak into the playoffs earlier than expected.
“My statement last week, about us not being a playoff team, must’ve lit a fire under them because they are doing their best to prove me wrong. I love it though I hope they prove me wrong and we can get this team into the playoffs, some of the young guys can really benefit from that experience.” Said GM Juddy
Well whatever was said, whether it was the GMs words, or the captain stepping up, or the coach motivating the team, it’s working and they look great. Let’s hope this run continues and we can finally watch some Vancouver playoff games.

The Run Has Stopped
After a 7-0 run, the Canucks lost 4 straight and then after Christmas break finish the month of December with 1 win and 2 losses. The currently sit 2nd to last place in the whole league. They could very well go on another win streak and jump up a few spots. "This is what we expected. I am not saying I think we have a bad team, I think we need more experience and more time for our young core to develop. When everyone is ready this team will be a real threat." said GM Juddy
At some point this team needs to start winning or Juddy may find himself looking for a new job. He has rebuilt the farm system and seems to be sticking to his youth and trusting his scouts. Once this all pans well see if he was right to or should have made more trades.

The Slide Continues
Vancouver continues to slide to the bottom of the league. The plus side of this season is that the Canucks still own their own 1st round pick and will have what seems like a top 5 pick and a chance st the 1st overal. The other plus side is a lot of their young guys are getting a chance to see if they’re NHL ready. Toporowski is getting a lot of playing time, along with Crnovik Rizzo and Saari and all are showing signs of greatness. Novak and Yasakov are both developing in the AHL and both seem to be almost ready for the move up to the NHL.
In other news the Canucks made a trade with the Rangers. Sending goalie prospect Ikonen and forward Keppen to New York for veteran winger Gallagher. Keppen was having a so so year and was expendable with Novak and Lundquist in the system. Ikonen was a previous 3rd round pick but with the addition of Yasakov he became available. Gallagher comes in with a lot of leadership to help the young guys develop and teach them how to be a pro. He also has a multi year deal and will likely be around for a few years to help for any future playoff push.

Mid Season Review
We are just past halfway through the season in the PTPHL and the Vancouver Canucks sit in last place in the entire league, AGAIN! In 46 games this year their record is 18-28 with no overtime loss. This team didn’t have high hopes, they rebuilt last year anticipating a deep stacked draft and this year was a bridge year of sorts. They wanted to see which vets would remain with the team going forward and which guys to move on from.
Kyle Crnovik has been their best player with 16 goals and 17 assisted for 33 points. Veleno and Toffoli have underperformed for the team this year. Toffol came in to help add offense to the team but has put up just 25 points.
Going forward the team needs big changes, the ultimate hope is that Novak becomes the stud everyone believes he will be, Lindquist will get time to develop and become a solid top 6 contributor, Yasakov will be a true #1 goalie, and that they keep losing and get the #1 pick in the draft.

Post Trade Deadline
The Vancouver Canucks made two blockbuster trades before the trade deadline yesterday. The first trade was a few weeks before the actual trade deadline. This trade sent young defensemen Aapo Saari to the Winnipeg Jets in exchange for Brandon Carlo and Ali Reusing. A controversial trade as the Canucks moved up to get Saari but are unhappy with his progression so far. Carlo is better now but Saari might become better. The trade starts the emphasis on winning now in Vancouver. The second trade came seconds before the deadline passed. The Canucks recieved Jack Hughes and Alexander Nylander from the Buffalo Sabres for Vancouvers 1st round pick, Samuel Malenfant, and Brandon Perlini. At the time Vancouvers 1st was a top 5 pick, but since the trade the pick looks to be around 9-15 depending on how the draft lottery goes. This trade along with Carlo trade is seen around the league as Vancouver going for it. Novak and Yasakov seem closer to being ready to be difference makers, Lundquist is developing nicely and now they had some young vets to the line up. Vancouver should be a playoff team next season.
