What’s next in Vancouver?
After big turnover in the offseason what is the next move for Vancouver? According to GM Juddy, the next move is to build chemistry. “The team is set, there are a few spots up for grabs, but mostly we are going to establish our line up and start to build chemistry to get back into the playoffs and make a deep run.” Said Juddy
This team may be the best Vancouver team, they are strong on defense, have a solid #1 goalie, and lots of depth, the next step is to build a line up and put the players in the right place to perform. Jack Hughes also needs to take the next step in his development, after rookie of the year was stolen from him, he needs to continue his great play from a year ago and build from that.

Canucks trade for Zucker
After a quiet few weeks leading into training camps and pre season the Vancouver Canucks upgrade their third line by trading for Jason Zucker. They moved Michael McCarron for him, who was pencilled in as their 3rd or 4th line center. Zucker is an upgrade on the player and helps upgrade the overal team. To start the pre season Zucker will be playing third line, but as GM Juddy tries to find the right line up we may see him play a few games on the teams top 6.
“Zucker did a great player and a quality locker room guy, we see him playing in multiple spots in the lineup. We will play around with line combos and see what fits best.” Says Juddy

Preseason Debut for New Rookies
The Vancouver Canucks drafted three players in the first three rounds of this previous draft, Schollenberger, Gilmartin, and Ikonen. The team believes these three are the real deal and giving them all a chance to improve a bit and show what they got in the 8 preseason games. Schollenberger, is a giant defender, who is probably two seasons away from making a real impact in the pros and will be spending a lot of time in Utica developing his skills. Gilmartin is a talented offensive player, like Schollenberger he is at least a season away and will spend a lot of time in the AHL. He is a gifted playmaker already and need to develop more there and his overal game. Ikonen is the worst of the three, and will spend this season playing in juniors or overseas. He will need a year development outside of the AHL before he can be ready to start developing his game in the AHL. A raw talent but with time the Canucks front office believe he will be a solid starter for the future.
After two years of virtually no draft picks the Canucks stocked up with 3 talented youngster, they have a good team and quality depth so these guys are not needed to make an impact right away, so they will likely be able to take their time and develop properly before they see time in Vancouver.

End of Preason
The preseason is now over, so what have we learned in Vancouver? Not much to be honest, the team played a bunch of rookies and only won 2 games. The first regular season game will be the first time the whole team will be able to play together and we’ll get a chance to see what this team looks like. We’ll likely see Glass and Hughes as the top two centers, Lucic and Kreider seem to be a likely pair at least to start, likely with Glass centering the two, that leaves Buchnevich and Vesey playing with Hughes. With Zucker and Carrier getting every chance to crack that top 6, but they’ll start the season playing on the third line with Gaunce or Kujawinski.
On defense, it looks like the team will keep the pair of Wilde and Jones together, with Webber playing on the second unit. His partner could be any of Skjei, Brisbois, or Connaunton, but it’ll likely be Skjei with the other two holding down the third pairing.
And no surprise here, Quick will start and play a majority of the games this year. He is the better goalie and has lots of expierence in the regular season and in the playoffs.
The Canucks need to get off to a quick start in the deep western conference, and hopefully gain some momentum for the rest of the year.

The New Year Begins
Vancouver starts the year with a very tough game against the Flyers, the very next day they have a game with the Panthers. The finish off their first week with a game against the Lightning. This is a tough opening week for the Canucks, a back to back game and 3 tough opponents in 4 days. This will be a big test of the talent on this team and the willpower to win. A quick start will help catapult this team into a good year but an 0-3 start could be devastating to the morale, and likely a shake up will happen after that. Lines will be altered first, then possible trades will be explored.
Right now we see this team as a playoff team, their strength is in their depth and goaltending. They have a top 2 defense pair that is the envy of the league, and with needing to re sign Jones after this year he could be a player that could be moved as a rental towards the deadline.
