We had this thing in one of the old leagues that I was in, it was basically two teams that become rivals or bitter rivals (same conference only). It's going to be head to head, 1 point for each head to head win in regular season. How many pts you get at the end of the season, it's your GMP reward, and if you beat your rival in the playoffs you get an extra 2GMP. If for example you don't play each other in the playoffs, whoever has the most playoff wins (even if both teams get eliminated) the end of the playoffs automatically gets 2GMP.
Example:
Montreal: 8GP 5W 3L = 5PTS - 5GMP vs Carolina: 8GP 3W 5L = 3PTS - 3GMP
Playoffs:
Round 1 Montreal vs Carolina (Carolina wins series in 5) Carolina gets an extra 2GMP
Round 1 Montreal vs Philadelphia (Montreal wins series in 6)
Carolina vs New Jersey (Carolina wins series in 5)
Round 2 Montreal vs Pittsburgh (Pittsburgh wins in 7)
Carolina vs Tampa Bay (Tampa Bay wins in 5)
Montreal: 10W Carolina: 7W
Montreal automatically gets 2GMP

1 point for each head to head win against rival 1 point for more season wins than rival 1 point for more total points than opponent 1 point for each playoff head to head victory against rival 1 point for eliminating rival in playoffs 1 point for more playoff wins than rival
I think the max would be 12 points if you play your rival in season 4 times

I dig the rivalry idea. Anything to get some damn emotional attachment to this place. Idc how the points work. That said, some of those are nearly the same thing and kind of redundant. I would like to see more points awarded for higher stakes and remove anything that isn't head-to-head. I think it should be head-to-head only matches to award points. That's where the real battle is, not comparing yourself to others in the standings. That's for Divisions to care about.
As an Avs fan who remembers The Rivalry well, I only ever cared about beating the Red Wings, not so much where we were in the standings in comparison to them. If we make it head-to-head only matches and bump the points, then shit can really get interesting around here. If my rival just bought himself a first line winger, then I would have to step my game up and be more active to stay competitive.
Great idea to breath some more life into sims, Pete.

I like it! Need to work out the point system a bit but if two GMs in the same division want to go mono-e-mono for some GMP, lets do it.

I just threw the points together quickly....I added the standings part because that was part of Pete’s original idea plus it adds to GMP points we could possible get. I’m open to this and any other ideas for points to be awarded.

I've been giving some thought to this over the last few days. I think this would be a good way to do it:
You and another GM agree to enter this 'rivalry' for the 2028-2029 season and put up GMP kind of like a bet. Say, 10 for entry.
For this example, its Toronto and Montreal.
Montreal wins game one, Toronto wins game two (1-1). Montreal wins game three and four, so the series ends 3-1. Because Montreal took the majority of games, they take the full 20 GMP (the 10 they bet plus the 10 from their rival). If it ends in a tie, both teams just get their wager back.
