Another Disappointment
This past season was another rough one for the Vancouver Canucks seeing them miss the playoffs yet again. On paper this team look poised to make a splash in the playoffs. After an early end to their season rumors have been going around that Seth Jones and Chris Kreider have been made available. The reports also show that the team is in the hunt for a top 10 pick and is in serious talks with a few teams in getting one. The offseason has plenty of time to play out so we’ll see if any moves are made.

All is Queit
After a lot of rumors floating around involving Vancouver trading for the #1 and the #2 pick. But nothing has come of those rumors, everything is still queit in Vancouver. There is still a chance for something to come up but it seems the Canucks have moved on and started pursueing other trade options.
With the draft one day away, moves need to be made soon or the Cancucks May miss out on a good draft pick.

What to look for in Season 7
After 7 awful years in Vancouver, can the Canucks finally make the leap and become a legit playoff team? Likely, not. This Canucks team has a strong defense, starting with Lindholm and Wilde, rookie Ilya Romanov, who was selected with the #2 pick last year, gets his chance to show what he’s got in making his PTPHL debut. Aapo Saari, this years #2 pick, is slated to start in Utica to take the year to develop his game. Brodzinski and Glass return up front as major offensive pieces, and in to help are Wennberg, Atkinson, and Shipashev. This team is pretty good, not great and we’ll hope to see them make more of a playoff push, but if not Vancouver could add another difference maker with their top pick to add to Romanov and Saari to form a good young nucleus.

Yet Another Slow Start
GM Juddy has been with the Vancouver Canucks for over 6 seasons now, and the results have not been good. In his first year he tore the team apart and adding picks in the next few drafts. After drafting Jack Hughes at #1 and trading the #2 pick for Seth Jones it seemed the team had a new direction. That year was another down year as Hughes developed in the minors but Juddy was hell bent on turning this team into a contender. Over the next few seasons we saw Stamkos, Toews, Quick, and Webber in Canucks uniforms and then be traded away. We are currently in season 7 and this team is entirely different than years past.
“In trying to compete quickly we got older, and therefor we need to get a young core back in Vancouver” said Juddy. In consecutive drafts he traded for the #2 pick and draft defensemen Ilya Romanov and Aapo Saari, both look to be all stars. The two will add to a good defense core of Wilde and Lindholm to lead this team in the future. Offense is where they are older and this upcoming draft is likely where they will address this problem. They own their 1st and currently sit last in the league and have a good chance at getting the #1 again, where I’m sure we’ll see another great forward be selected. The hope is this team can compete in a season or two.

Vancouver looking good?
After a slow bad start, the Vancouver Canucks have really looked good as of late. In their last 10 games they have 6 wins and have moved up from the bottom of the league. Things started to change when Stolarz began starting games over DiPietro and it looks like Stolarz has won the starting job for now, with the Canucks trading DiPietro for Fucale and a 3rd. They are also rumored to have put a claim in for EDM goalie Cam Talbot, so a really goalie controversy could be starting soon in Vancouver.
In in other news defensemen Lindholm was reported to be on the trading block, but no moves have been made and the Canucks have essentially taken him off the block. Forward Brodzinski is on the block as well and has gained some interest from several teams including the Blackhawks, Islanders, Golden Knights, Oilers, and Senators who all show the most interest. It is unclear if Juddy will stand with what he’s got or move Brodzinski or other assets for future assets. With the team doing well you might wonder if he’ll try to go for their first playoff appearance under Juddy or continue with this rebuild on the fly that has worked so far. The other issue is the rumor of a generational talent in this years drsft, does Juddy tank the rest of this year to acquire a player like Crosby or McDavid or do they take their chances st winning the lottery with lower odds.
time will tell...
