Stupid name, grand idea -- a "lifer" player on your team that is solely influenced by your activity and contribution to the league.
You create a "project player" -- everything including their name -- who starts as a long shot with a "player archtype" (see below); you will nurture this player as he moves through your farm system, your development coaching, and hopefully becomes a key cog on your team.
How does he improve?
Players improve by the setup of very simple percentages, up to 100% per season -- 1 POT point, and +10 ceilings in the archtype. It will take several seasons for your player to become an active member of your team, but one you can easily nurture and we can track:
- Recruiting an active GM (both you and the active GM get improved players the longer you both stay)
- Reaching a certain amount of board posts for team activity
- Completing activity checks
- Attending draft (or providing a list)
Some activities will allow you to put percentages toward the NEXT pot point and ceilings (or bring you up to the 100%)
- Temping another team
- Becoming GM of the Year
- Being a player agent, or performing some other league duty besides GMing (providing artwork, advertising, etc.)
- BEST RETURN is recruiting an active GM (both you and the active GM get improved players the longer you both stay)
Where does the player end up?
He will not be a Zatko. He will not have 99 attributes all the way through. But depending on the archtype, he could become a core player on your team. A "well-rounded" defender could be a 1st line guy, all improved from you being an active part of PTPHL. A "playmaking" forward might be considered one of the better playmakers in the league, able to contribute on your top 6. But it will take time and effort on your part; the good news is, the effort aspect is easy.
How does this get underway?
Times are TBD, but here's how we'll approach this:
1. Setting of final details (percentages and how to obtain)
2. Player archtype draft (worst team gets 1st pick, based on standings last year (VGK #1, DAL #2, WSH #30...)
3. Player details set -- you'll pick a name, country, and weight.
4. Start being active! EZ items like the ones listed above...do your instructions, participate in league activities, recruit GMs, etc.
What happens to teams without a GM?
Non-GM teams and temp teams will move at 100% for the season. If you're a temp GM, you'll see the bonus on your main team.
Seems like a lot of work!
It isn't! At least not for you! I'll be tracking everything for you via spreadsheet and it'll be on a published google doc. Any concerns can be raised to me, but your job is simple. It literally is just showing up and being part of our effort to continue our strong league.
What do I do next?
Well, for one, provide your feedback on the idea. I've spoken to a lot of folks offline and the general consensus is its a good idea that needs to be closely monitored, so we don't have Zatkos on every team, and folks can't exploit. Therefore this idea and its improvements are subject to change, so we can keep good parity amongst the teams. But, I welcome your ideas and thoughts while we get this season underway.
